Insist on yourself; never imitate. Your own gift you can present every moment with the cumulative force of a whole life’s cultivation; but of the adopted talent of another, you have only an extemporaneous, half possession. That which each can do best, none but his Maker can teach him.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

This is our ‘About’ page but our story is not really about us … it’s about the people and their music we’ve had (and continue to have) the privilege of working with.

Stuart Ongley set up SGO Music Publishing Ltd in 1991 after a music biz apprenticeship which began in the early 80s, firstly at Sir Cliff Richard’s Patch Music where he went on to become Managing Director, followed by a successful run as MD of Peermusic (UK) Ltd, finishing up on a high note with Rozalla’s worldwide hit, the rave anthem “Everybody’s Free” and Cliff Richard’s #1 UK single “Saviour’s Day”. For the past 30 years SGO has been Stuart’s labour of musical love supported by co-workers and family.

SGO is an independent international music company. We specialise in music publishing and rights, and are partnered globally with BMG. The music we represent is used worldwide in all types of media. The artists we work with tour all major music markets each year.

The writers and artists we work with tend to be highly talented, self-motivated and fully committed music makers. Our role is to be there to support them where needed – to fill the gaps. Alongside this personal attention, we use all available technology – as far as we know we were the first independent music publisher to have our entire catalogue online for our international partners to access.

We love music and regard it as one of the vital ingredients of life for all peoples of this planet. We therefore have the highest respect for those who make the music and regard it as our role and responsibility to support and nurture the talent of our clients in every way we can.
